The 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially begins June 1 lasting until November 30. The good news is that the months to come are not expected to see the historic level of storm activity as 2020. The bad news is that NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is predicting it to be an above average hurricane season. Predictions are only estimates, however the probability is definitely there. If you are anywhere close to the vast hurricane regions, it is always a good idea to be prepared for what may blow in over the near future. Tarps will help you deal with the predicted hurricane season.
A variety of heavy duty tarps are available that will deliver both a preventative shield and protection from further damage once there are storm losses. Fabric that includes Polyethylene (Poly), Vinyl, and Mesh are commonly used for the applications. These covers are all durable, easy to handle, and deliver protection against the hazards of wind, rain, and pests. One of the main benefits for many of these tarps is the waterproof features since water and the tremendous damage that it can do is always a major concern.
Prevention
As a means of defense before the storm does hit, a secure and properly tied down tarp can help guard against heavy winds, flying debris, and the torrential rains that result from hurricanes and other severe weather conditions. Many tarp products are mildew and rot resistant allowing them to be applied to roofs, other structures, and materials for longer periods of time especially for rentals, vacation homes, second residences, and vacant buildings.
Limiting Damage
One thing is certain with major storms including hurricanes, there is going to be damage. One of the most important tasks to do once there is a destructive event is to quickly cover and secure the affected area to help eliminate further damage from wind and rain along with infestation from insects, pests, and people. It is often the damage that occurs following the initial episode that causes the largest losses when not protected.
What About Hurricane Tarps?
A Hurricane Tarp is a general description for tarps that safely cover your roof, structures, and supplies from storm incidents. They are strong, lightweight, and extremely easy to handle. The stereotypical Hurricane Tarp is the Blue Poly Tarps constructed with layers of plastic material with grommets (eyelets) located around the entire perimeter for secure and easy tie down purposes. You will commonly see these blue tarps on roofs following storm damage, during repair, and with new construction.
Another effective Hurricane Tarp is the Hurricane Barrier Mesh Tarps. This is an extremely durable cover that is made with a 95 percent closure weave that is slightly perforated to allow some air and water to pass through. It protects from heavy wind, driving rain, and flying debris while also being excellent covers and privacy screens for other applications.
Be Proactive
Whether it is hurricanes, tornadoes, or any severe storms, there is no area that is in the clear. It is always a good idea to have these large and protective tarps on hand for when the damage does occur. Once there is a major storm event the local hardware store is going to quickly sell out and online ordering is going to take a few days at best. Be prepared!
