Hurricane Tarps

As much as bad weather is a certainty, it is also sure to be unpredictable. The more preparation that you do in advance of an eventually severe storm the better chance you have during and or after to withstand and endure in the event of unfortunate damage. Hurricanes are some of Mother Nature’s most destructive weather events. Because of this, a classification of protective coverings exists. Hurricane Tarps provide both preventive and further damage protection during and after an outbreak.

Hurricane Tarps are more of a general term referring to a blanket of material that is large enough, light enough, and strong enough to cover and safeguard your roof or other structures. The most common type of these are (often blue in color) Poly Tarps, which are made of layered plastic (Polyethylene) material with grommets, or eyelets, to help safely tie down the covering.  These sheets are lightweight and waterproof while also being heat and tear resistant. Fire resistant options are available.

Preventative

A Hurricane Tarp can be the first line of defense for your roof or other items against the wind, rain, and flying debris of extreme weather conditions. Providing that they cover the entire area and are properly secured, these can help deflect and even prevent damage. Most of these products are also rot and mildew proof so that they can be applied for a longer length time perfect for rentals, vacation homes, second homes, or vacant properties.

Protection from Further Damage

Sometimes nothing can avert some loss resulting from a severe storm. The key to damage control following a destructive event is to cover the affected section of the roof or other area with a Hurricane Tarp to keep water, wind, and debris from infiltrating the hole, crack, or exposed property creating additional damage later.

It is sometimes the secondary or following occurrences that cause more harm than the initial event. Get the exposed and vulnerable areas covered as soon as possible once the weather conditions and the structure are safe.  The subsequent damage that occurs from an area without protection can lead to possible insurance claim issues.

Another very important use of tarps following a destructive storm is providing an emergency shelter for you and your loved ones if your house has too much damage and you cannot yet travel or seek alternate housing. Tarps are often a clever use as tents by campers because of their mobility, adaptability, and durability.

In Stock

If you live in an area of the country that is prone to hurricanes or other serious weather events it is a good idea to have a tarp or two on hand just in case. As with any event, once something happens most people react after and there will be a run on tarps making them scarce or totally sold out. As the saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

The stereotypical Hurricane Tarp is the blue poly version. There are many additional colors that are available including brown, green, silver, white, red, yellow, orange, and even camouflage. A huge variety of stock or custom sizes are available depending on your area of coverage and need. Common sizes include 16’ x 20’, 20’ x 20’, 20’ x 30’, and 20’ x 40’. The sky’s the limit with these tarps, 100’ x 100’ and larger are a reality.
