Helpful Tips in protecting against COVID-19 according to the CDC
As there is no vaccine yet to prevent COVID-19 (Coronavirus 2019), the best way to avert the illness is to avoid exposure. The virus is thought to spread mainly from person to person in close contact (within 6 feet). This occurs as respiratory droplets are produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The drops can land in the mouths or noses of nearby people or be inhaled into the lungs.
Steps to help protect yourself
Clean hands often: Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. This is important especially after you have been in public places or after blowing your nose, sneezing, or coughing. Hand sanitizer is a secondary option, 60% or greater alcohol content is suggested.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands: Keep your hands away from your face to prevent the transmission of the virus from your hands to these entry points of your immune system.
Prevent close contact: Avoid people that are sick and put distance between you and any person especially in high risk communities and areas.
Stay home if you are sick: Remain home unless you are seeking medical attention. If you are sick stay away (isolate) from others including pets.
If you think you may have the coronavirus: Contact your doctor’s office or emergency department to let them know that you may have COVID-19 and they will instruct on how and where to proceed in evaluating.
Cover for coughs and sneezes: Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue as you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow. Throw used tissues in the trash. Immediately wash your hands.
Wear a facemask if you are sick: Wear facemasks if you are sick or caring for a sick person.
Clean and disinfect: Clean and disinfect common touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
